The art of being seen

Wall paint, sauces, fertilizers and numerous other applications are packed in our buckets. From small 0.6 liter bowls with fish to large 61 liter buckets for horse food: Dijkstra Plastics supplies and prints these packaging. This print gives the packaging some extras so that they catch the eye. In addition to the possibility of photorealistic images, these prints are scratch-resistant and therefore give your packaging a high-quality look. So you can be sure that your packaging stands out where this is done.

As mentioned, printing is possible on different sizes of buckets, but the color of the packaging is also not a limitation. Whether the bucket is white, transparent or coloured we leave completely to you! Of course, where possible in terms of application, we can also make the bucket you want to use from 100% recycled plastic!

The technique of In-Mould Labelling

Printing buckets with IML is an extensive process in which attention to the result is essential. Every part of the production process is under close supervision so that the packaging can be seen!

At the start of the process, artwork is formatted in a pre-set format. The dimensions depend on the chosen packaging. After the artwork has arrived at our house, we get to work with it and prepare everything. The data is set up in our system while one of our suppliers gets started with the artwork. This is curved so that it fits correctly on our conical buckets. After the PDF is released, the labels are scheduled for production.

Large sheets are printed with multiple labels at the same time. Under the right conditions such as temperature and humidity, these labels are quickly printed via offset print. These then go into a special drying room so that all inks dry correctly and completely. After this drying process, the labels are cut out of the sheet to the right size, making the labels perfectly tailored for the desired packaging. The labels are carefully packed and shipped to one of our factories in Haaksbergen or Almelo.

From label to packaging

Once the labels are in, we can start converting the labels. Due to the properties of the label, it melts together with the bucket during the injection moulding process.

The label is inserted in the mould with a robotic arm. By means of a vacuum or static charge, this label remains in the mould. In the mould, heated plastic is injected that takes the shape of the mould but keeps the label on the outside of the packaging. The plastic is then cooled back to a lower temperature with which the label merges with the packaging. This creates, without the addition of adhesives or other additives, a complete plastic packaging in which the label is one with the bucket.

Advantages

  • Scratch-resistant and high-quality printing
  • Photorealistic possibilities
  • Cost-efficient due to automation
  • Higher decrease provides immediate benefit
  • Various possibilities with paints and materials

New highly efficient energy saving cooling system

Recently we invested in a new highly efficient energy saving cooling system for our plant in Haaksbergen. With a projected saving of 1,600,000+ kWh per year, this results in saving 918 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

Dijkstra Plastics has a clear mission, to continue to be the most sustainable producer of plastic pails in Europe. For example all our products are made of 100% recyclable Polypropylene (PP). In addition to this, we encourage our non-food customers to switch to pails made from 100% recycled material. Finally, in 2022 we launched a startup called FIRE-OFF. This company ensures that used empty pails are no longer incinerated.

Also this new energy saving cooling system contributes to achieving our mission.
